The Good Marketers Apprenticeship connects recent graduates with cause-based organizations and our marketing agency partners. This unique experience provides tangible and impactful hands on experience using marketing and advertising to help charities across Canada have an even greater impact with their causes. GMG Apprenticeships last between 4-6 months, are paid, and are often eligible for co-op fulfillment or course credit.

Digital Marketing Apprentice

About You

You’re a technology enthusiast who is passionate about creating for a purpose. You understand the digital world, can expertly navigate social channels, and are focused on results. You’re very organized, enjoy getting details just right, are a natural communicator, and can manage multiple deadlines and due dates at the same time.

The Gig

You’ll work directly with Digital Marketing Manager, Megan, in the execution of digital campaigns including: basic web updates, building e-blasts, e-newsletters, online advertising, and social media management. To bring things full circle, you’ll also work on reporting for the campaigns you’ve built to provide accountability to clients. Building emails and seeing them come to life will be a major component of this role.

Major Responsibilities

General

  • Ensure strong communication with Megan and internal team to maintain update on status, risks, and issues regarding campaigns and production.

  • Abide by production schedule and priorities

  • Use productivity and collaboration app (Asana, Google Docs etc.) consistently and actively

Digital Campaigns

  • Building emails in MailChimp (follow project plans to a tee and inputting text and images)

  • Building e-newsletters

  • Ongoing client website text and image edits

  • Maintaining client email archive

  • Coordinate and file incoming image assets from clients

  • Test email campaigns in Emails on Acid; multiple devices, virtual machines etc. to ensure compatibility

  • Send test emails to Digital Manager

  • Receive and implement edits

  • Ensure emails are ready to be sent according to campaign timelines

  • Create, update, and test donation confirmation emails

  • Create reports on completed campaigns for clients

  • Basic web updates (images and copy) to align with seasonal campaigns

The Nice To Haves

  • Familiar with MailChimp, Sparkpost and other email service providers (Gmail, Outlook etc.)

  • Experience working for or volunteering with a charity or nonprofit

  • Understanding of online tools like Asana, Slack, Google Apps, etc.

Office Administrator

About You

You are bright, enthusiastic and have a nice balance of personal accountability, flexibility, collaboration and humour. You are a self professed organization guru with an outstanding attention to detail. Anticipating needs is a prized skill of yours. You’re ready to help with any and all little things to keep our team running at their best.

The Gig

You’ll work directly with Benifactor’s CEO, Ben, to keep Benifactor and our companies running behind the scenes. You’ll also bring your own personality to the team to help our culture thrive.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Answer slack messages, text messages, gmail, phone calls, and shouts from across the room.

  • Take ownership of the physical office’s appearance when it got to messy, turned on the Sonos, and contributed to culture with your presence.

  • Assist the CEO with his project of the month (order party supplies, research policies say).

  • Upon discovering the toilets were clogged, call the plumbers, find a mop and clean.

  • When one of our key employees brings her dog to work, give him a walk around the block.

  • Maintaining rental Google sheets, HR and how-to Google docs, to keep our process on point.

  • Assist in preparing for meetings with people like our Executive Coach.

  • Order office supplies, coffee, snacks, macarons, flowers, etc. to keep our culture kick ass.

  • Take pictures of meals expenses and send to our book keeper, forward invoices sent to us each month.

  • Light up our credit card paying contractors on-time.

  • Plan or coordinate team events and seasonal decorating to bring joy to our day to day.

  • Welcome the UPS guy, potential new hires, and random lady looking for CBC radio.

  • Read books on the Birkman and Enneagram to further psychoanalyze fellow employees.

  • Any other tasks as needed. You might as well be called Random Task (bonus: you get the reference).

MUST HAVES

You:  Don’t take no crap from nobody, Self-starter, Intuitive thinker, Detail oriented and Flexible.

Designer

ABOUT YOU

You are positive, fun, and flexible. You enjoy variety in your day-to-day assignments. You work well with others and strive to create the best work possible. Having a balance of focus and fun is something you value in a workplace. You love to learn, improve, and are motivated to help cause-based organizations.

THE GIG

You will work with our fundraising leaders and the design team to assist in making concepts a reality, and creating exceptional web and print creative assets for our clients.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the team with both print and email creative projects for our clients fundraising goals.

  • Create and translate sketches and style boards into finalized projects.

  • Create icons, brand mark concepts, and other visual assets to support marketing materials.

  • Other tasks as requested.

THE MUST HAVES

  • 1-2 years of design experience.

  • Equally comfortable designing for both print and digital.

  • Professional working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

  • Working knowledge of setting up and packaging print-ready files.

  • Comfortable with Google Drive, Dropbox, Trello, and Slack.

  • Ability to work with sensitive timelines, understanding you have a team to support you.

  • Excellent and timely communication.

  • An appetite to be teachable and ask clarifying questions.

  • Friendly, upbeat attitude, and ability to keep up with our terrible puns and gifs.

Copywriter

ABOUT YOU

You’re creative-minded and detail-oriented. You love writing and want to put your writing skills to use helping fundraise for charities who are transforming communities. You’re very organized, love details, are a natural communicator, and can manage multiple deadlines and due dates at the same time.

THE GIG

You’ll work with one of our partner agencies and help in the writing of print and digital campaigns, including cultivation and acquisition appeal letters, newsletters, e-newsletters, e-blasts and web landing pages. You may also be asked to help write other items such as case studies, blog posts or press releases.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Handle multiple demands and meet deadlines promptly.

  • Write clear, expressive, concise, specific and grammatically stellar copy.

  • Adopt different writing voices and styles per client.

  • Take direction and appreciate quality, constructive feedback.

  • Assess information and decipher key points.

  • Understand multiple specific target audiences and write accordingly.

  • Write with specific calls to actions and goals.

  • Use productivity and collaboration tools (Trello, Google Docs, Slack, etc.) consistently and actively.

THE MUST HAVES

  • Post-secondary education or relevant experience.

  • Comfort writing copy for campaigns that are published digitally and in print.

THE NICE TO HAVES

  • Experience working for or volunteering with a charity or nonprofit.
